Bhubaneswar: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das as the President of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect.
This development was announced through a press release by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
Das, born on November 26, 1958, has a rich political background, having represented the Kalahandi constituency in the 15th Lok Sabha. His experience spans various roles, including Union Minister of State for Railways and Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports.
Bhakta Das expressed his gratitude and commitment after being appointed as the new president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee. He shared, “I have always wanted to restore Congress to its former glory in Odisha, and I am humbled that the party has trusted me with this responsibility. This appointment is a testament to the faith Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge Ji have in me, and I am thankful for their trust. To succeed, I will need the cooperation of every party member to revitalize Congress in the state.”
Das’ appointment is part of the Congress party’s efforts to revamp its leadership in Odisha, aiming for organizational revival.
