AIIMS Bhubaneswar Forms Expert Panel To Treat Puri Teen Girl Set On Fire

Bhubaneswar: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, has formed a 14-member expert committee to oversee the treatment and recovery of a 15-year-old girl from Puri who was brutally set on fire by three unidentified youths.

According to the office order, the 14-member expert committee has been constituted as follows for the management and monitoring of the treatment:

  1. Prof. Anupam Dey, Dept. of General Medicine
  2. Prof. Manoj Panigrahi, Dept. of Pulmonary Medicine
  3. Dr. Sanjay Giri, Additional Professor, Dept. of Burn and Plastic Surgery (Member Secretary)
  4. Dr. Debashis Acharya, Associate Professor, Dept. of Cardiology
  5. Dr. Alok Sahoo, Associate Professor, Dept. of Anesthesia
  6. Dr. Ritesh Panda, Associate Professor, Dept. of Trauma & Emergency
  7. Dr. Sindhu Sudha Sahu, Associate Professor, Dept. of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT)
  8. Dr. Subarna Mitra, Associate Professor, Dept. of Obstetrics & Gynecology
  9. Dr. Preeti Meena, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Nephrology
  10. Dr. Tarun Kumar Patra, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Anesthesia
  11. Dr. Shyama Sunder Behera, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Burn & Plastic Surgery
  12. Dr. Devishree Das, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Anesthesia
  13. Dr. Mahalingam, Nursing Superintendent-II
  14. Ms. Priyadarshini Sahoo, ANS

“The committee can co-opt any other faculty member of any other clinical department as and when required and shall do the best possible management for the patient and the treatment shall be provided free of cost as decided by government. Dr. Sanjay Giri is being authorised to prepare medical update once in the morning and one in the evening everyday,” the office order stated.

Meanwhile, the incident took place while the girl was on her way to a friend’s house.

According to reports, three bike-borne assailants intercepted her, doused her with petrol, and set her ablaze before fleeing the scene. Local residents rushed to the victim’s aid, extinguishing the flames and transporting her to the hospital.

The victim sustained severe burn injuries over approximately 70% of her body and was admitted to the emergency department at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. She was subsequently shifted to the Burn Centre for specialized treatment and intensive care.
