Bhubaneswar: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar celebrated the 10th Ayurveda Day with a special programme organised at the OPD foyer on Tuesday, highlighting the growing role of traditional Indian medicine in holistic healthcare.
The event was graced by AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, who underscored the increasing relevance of Ayurveda in daily healthcare and reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to integrating traditional systems with modern medical practices.
On this occasion, the first edition of the in-house magazine ‘AYUSHVANI’ was released. The publication will serve as a platform to share research updates, clinical insights, and departmental activities from the AYUSH wing.
The AYUSH Department at AIIMS Bhubaneswar is providing both outpatient and inpatient services, offering a range of classical Ayurvedic therapies such as Panchakarma, Shirodhara, Janubasti, Kati Basti, Shirobasti, Netra Kriyakalpa, and Yogic kriyas. It also operates a dedicated pharmacy dispensing Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic, and Unani medicines free of cost.
Expanding its specialised services, the department has introduced Leech Therapy for non-healing ulcers, varicose veins, and eczema, alongside a Ksharasutra Operation Theatre for treating anorectal disorders like fistula and pilonidal sinus. Eye ailments including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy are also being managed through kriyakalpa and Panchakarma procedures.
Dr. Biswas further informed that the AYUSH department is closely integrated with other clinical units for patient referrals and diagnostics. Current research is underway on conditions such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, PCOS, infertility, and skin diseases. Plans are also being made to introduce Digital Nadi Pariksha (NadiTarangini) for personalised treatment.
As part of its community outreach, the institute is conducting regular AYUSH health camps and the monthly Swarna Bindu Prashan programme for children.
The celebration was attended by Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, Medical Superintendent; Lt. Col Abhijit Sarkar, DDA; Dr. Prasanta Kumar Sahoo, Sr. Medical Officer & Head, AYUSH Department; Dr. Ajit Kumar Pradhan, Medical Officer (Ayurveda); along with faculty members, staff, and other officials.
