Bhubaneswar: A dedicated ambulance corridor will be developed from Khandagiri to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar, announced Works and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
The decision was made during a review meeting of the Public Works Department, where it was decided to construct a 3-lane service road on either side of NH-16 from Khandagiri to Kalinga Nagar Chowk, with one lane reserved exclusively for ambulances.
According to reports, this move aims to ensure swift and unhindered access to medical facilities, especially during emergencies. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has given the green signal, and work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to begin soon.
Law Minister emphasised the need for a dedicated ambulance corridor, stating, “In my opinion, there should be a special ambulance corridor for hospitals like AIIMS, which see a regular influx of patients. During our review meeting, the AIIMS superintendent and others requested measures to improve connectivity between the National Highway and AIIMS. We have instructed NHAI authorities to construct a 3-lane service road on either side of NH-16 from Khandagiri to Kalinga Nagar Chowk, with one lane reserved exclusively for ambulances. NHAI authorities have given the green signal, and we’re working on submitting the proposal. This dedicated lane will ensure patients face minimal difficulties reaching AIIMS Khandagiri Square.”
It is pertinent to mention that the development is in response to the growing need for efficient emergency services in the area, with AIIMS Bhubaneswar being a major healthcare hub.
