Nuapada: A Babesiosis-infected leopard that was undergoing treatment succumbed to its infection in Odisha’s Nuapada district on Tuesday morning.
Since the leopard fell ill some weeks back, veterinarians and researchers were closely monitoring its condition. Unfortunately, the leopard allegedly did not avail of better treatment despite the suggestion of the veterinarians to shift the big cat to some place having better health facilities for animals. The Forest Department officials reportedly were unwilling to send the leopard outside Nuapada for treatment.
Veterinarians were treating the leopard at the local Range office before its death.
It is worth mentioning here that Forest Department personnel rescued the ailing leopard from Sileribahara under the Dharambanda section of the Nuapada Forest Range on April 16.
