Balasore: A teacher, peeved with threats from loan providers, attempted suicide near Soro railway station today. However, an alert loco-pilot spotted the man, Pradip Kumar Ojha, and foiled his suicide attempt.
Burdened with a huge interest derived from a loan of Rs 1 lakh, Ojha decided to end his life. He tried coming under a running train close to the Soro railway station. The loco pilot of the goods train spotted him and stopped it, thereby saving Ojha.
According to Ojha, he had taken loans from at least 10 mobile apps in 2017 during his marriage. An unsuspecting school teacher, Ojha was hardly aware that the repayment time is just 10 days.
As he was unable to repay the loans in 10 days, heavy interests started mounting. To date, Ojha has repaid more than Rs 35 lakh in form of interest to the fraud loan App companies.
He was subjected to threats, intimidation, humiliation and a lot more which forced him to submit to the fraudsters, who have been operating these Apps with impunity over the past few years.
Recently, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) carried out a major operation busting the racket of fraud loan apps. Several people have been arrested, Apps shutdown, and lookout circulars issued following EOWs action.
While being rescued, Ojha was pleading people not to fall into the trap of these phoney apps and avoid such dubious loans. He was handed over to his family, native of Maharudrapur under Khantapada police limits.
