Bhubaneswar: Launching ‘Slum Upgradation Programme’ from Balasore through video conferencing at the Lok Seva Sadan today, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that all the slums across the State will be converted into ideal colonies with all basic civic amenities.
Inaugurating the ambitious scheme of slum development from great Odia litterateur Fakir Mohan Senapati’s nativity Balasore, the Chief Minister said that the poor slum-dwellers are contributing a lot to various spheres of life starting from fighting against Covid to the city development activities. Hence, they have the same right to their own development.
He elucidated that the scheme launched today envisages improvement in electricity supply, potable water, road and community centres as well as creating opportunities for livelihood augmentation.
This scheme will be immediately taken up in 1000 slum areas across the State here.
The CM also mentioned that Odisha Government’s “Jaga Mission” programme has created history in the whole country. It has also attracted the global attention.
Inaugurating distribution of 1,05,000 Land Entitlement Certificates (LECs) on the occasion, the CM handed over LECs to 2054 beneficiaries of 41 slums in Balasore. Earlier, 60,000 slum-dwellers of Odisha have been given away the LECs. In the next three months, over 1,65,000 beneficiaries will be distributed the LECs. Notably, 4.5 lakh slum-dwellers living in 1718 slums of 101 municipal areas across the State will be benefitted from the LECs.
The CM also inaugurated 116 multi-purpose community centres ‘Parichaya’ while construction of 400 more Parichayas are underway.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister, besides launching the ‘Slum Upgradation Programme’, also unveiled its SOP document. An MoU was signed between the State Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department and Delhi-based Centre for Policy Research (CPR). CPR will extend support to this programme as knowledge partner.
Prominent among others, the function was graced by H&UD Minister Pratap Jena, H&UD secretary G. Mathi Vathanan, Jaga Mission director Sagramjit Nayak, Development Commissioner Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Finance Secretary Ashok Kumar Meena and 5T Secretary to the CM, V.K. Pandian.
