Puri: All preparations for the world-famous annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath scheduled to be held on July 12 are on track, informed Puri Collector Samarth Verma.
Briefing reporters today after a meeting on Rath Yatra preparations chaired by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, the Collector said that 95% of construction work of the three chariots has been completed, only chitrakara (painters) are doing their job and it is expected that the chariots will be ready by 9th July.
He said Covid-19 testing of sevayats (servitors) will begin from July 8.
Around 3,000 sevayats and 1,000 temple staff will be tested for Covid-19.
In addition to this police and officials of the district administration will be also conducted, the Collector stated.
He said RT-PCR and RAT test of these personnel has already started.
“Everything is on track. Right from works at the main temple, Gundicha temple, construction of rest sheds along the Bada Danda, provision of drinking water, vaccination and double barricading by police everything is going on smoothly,” Verma said.
