Malkangiri: Acting of allegations of six kidney-related deaths in a year at Panaraguda and MPV2 villages under Korukonda block of Malkangiri district, a team of health officials set a camp in the village and have collected samples of suspected patients and the water being consumed in the area.
According to villagers, the number of kidney patients in these two villages has increased significantly in the last two years, with many deaths. Three kidney-related deaths have been reported in each village in the last one year. Besides, many are suffering from kidney-related ailments.
Epidemiologist Dr. Durgaprasad Raj informed that people are suffering from such diseases due to the lack of proper drinking water. Panaraguda has 10 tube wells, but the water is not suitable to drink. Similarly, there are 14 tube wells in MPV2 village but the water has high iron content.
Raj further informed that the tribals have been reluctant to seek medical treatment at the hospital and are taking help of quacks due to superstition. Besides, many are turning to private hospitals in neighbouring States. The reports of such hospitals can’t be trusted and need re-examination.
The team of doctors have began treatment after consulting with the villagers and sending the critically ill patients to the hospital. They also took samples from various tube wells for testing.
