Bhubaneswar: In a major welfare push for the state’s traditional artistes, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced a substantial increase in the monthly allowance provided under the Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana.

Majhi made the announcement at the 48th State-level Pala Sammilani held at Park Lane in Keonjhar, lending a celebratory note to the cultural gathering as the year 2025 comes to a close.

Addressing artistes and cultural enthusiasts, the Chief Minister underscored the pivotal role played by traditional performers in preserving Odisha’s cultural identity. He said the enhanced financial assistance was a mark of respect for artistes who have devoted their lives to safeguarding and promoting the state’s rich heritage through folk and classical art forms.

With the revision, artistes aged between 40 and 80 years will now receive a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000, while those above 80 years will be entitled to Rs 3,500 per month. The increase is expected to bring direct benefit to 47,704 artistes across the state, offering them greater financial security and recognition.

The announcement evoked widespread appreciation among the artistic community, many of whom described the decision as timely and reassuring. Traditional performers associated with Pala and other indigenous art forms expressed hope that the enhanced support would encourage younger generations to remain connected to Odisha’s cultural roots.

The State-level Pala Sammilani, regarded as one of the most prestigious cultural congregations in Odisha, provided an apt platform for the declaration. The move reaffirmed the government’s stated commitment to nurturing traditional arts and ensuring dignity and support for the artistes who keep these traditions alive.
