Rourkela: A speeding bus went out of control on Thursday morning on Rourkela’s Panposh Road and crashed into several vehicles parked on the roadside, causing extensive damage and triggering local outrage over alleged negligence in recent road construction work.
The incident took place near Suruchi Bakery, where the bus rammed into an SUV, a pickup van, and three scooters parked along the road. While no fatalities were reported, four individuals sustained minor injuries. Moments after the accident, the bus driver reportedly fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle.
Residents alleged that the mishap occurred because of a faulty manhole cover installed by the sewerage board during the ongoing road development work. According to locals, the cover had been improperly fitted, creating a hazard for motorists.
The crash follows another similar incident reported late Wednesday night, when a bus collided with a car near TCIL Chhak, leaving the car damaged.
These back-to-back accidents have raised concerns at a time when the Transport Department is observing “Zero Fatality Week” and conducting awareness campaigns aimed at reducing road accidents.
Local people complain that despite these efforts, reckless and irresponsible driving continues unabated, contributing to a worrying rise in accidents across the city.
