**Ganjam:** A pall of gloom descended in the wee hours of Monday as the three Odia labourers who died in the blast at a granite quarry in Hathi Belgal village of Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district on Friday evening, were brought to their respective villages in Ganjam district.
The bodies of deceased identified as Duryodhan Nahak (42) and Manoranjan Nahak (22) reached BT Nuagaon at 1:05 am where the wails of the inconsolable women broke the stillness of the night. Even the clouds burst into rains on behalf of the bereaved families. The last rites were performed by the villagers amidst the gloomy scenario.
The third deceased Bhimsen Nahak (30) was then taken to of J.Radhagovindpur in Ganjam district to be handed over to the family.
Block Chairman Prasant Nayak said, “The Andhra Government has arranged for the transportation of the deceased persons and has also given Rs 2500 each for their last rites. The families got Rs 10,000 from the Red Cross Fund and Rs 2000 from the Harishchandra scheme. They will also get the amount announced by the Odisha CM.”
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia for three deceased Odia labourers and said that the cost of the treatment of the Odia labourers injured will be borne by the State Government expressing his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased
Three other labourers from Ganjam, Rajendra Nahak, Pandaba Lenka and Ram Chandra Nahak were injured in the blast. They are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Andhra Pradesh.
Reportedly, all the six labourers from Odisha had migrated to Andhra Pradesh in search of work last week.
A two-member team from the district administration has been sent to Kurnool to investigate the matter further and check up on the injured persons’ health.
