Bhubaneswar: The rail traffic has been restored on the track near Kantakapalli junction in Kothavalasa ‘mandal’ (block) in Andhra Pradesh after the mishap that left 13 dead and several injured.
The rescue operations have been completed.
The express train started journey on the track after a trial run following repair of the track. Bhubaneswar-Bengaluru Prashanti Express ran on the up-line as a first express train at around 2.30 pm today.
“First Goods Train passed in Down line at 1423hrs while Bhubaneswar-Bangalore Prashanti Express reached Almonda at 1427 hrs and departed at 1436hrs on UP line,” a railway statement said.
Eight Poclain Machines, a 140 Tons rail crain and 800 to 900 Manpower were engaged in the restoration work, Railways stated.
The speed of the train has been fixed at 10 kmph on both lines.
The horrific train accident involving Visakhapatnam-Palasa and Viskhapatnam-Rayagada passenger trains occurred last night near Kantakalli junction in Andhra.
Four coaches of the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train derailed after it was rammed into by the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train.
At least 29 injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment and 10 among them are stated to be critical.
The injured were shifted to hospitals in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.
