Anganwadi Worker Arrested For Amassing Disproportionate Assets Worth Over Rs 2.96 Cr

Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance Directorate today arrested the Anganwadi worker of Koradakanta Anganwadi Centre on the outskirts of the Capital city Kabita Mathan over charges of possession of assets worth  Rs 2,96,39,475 disproportionate to her known sources of income, said an official press release.

According to an official press release, a case against Mathan and her spouse by the Vigilance Cell today under section 13/(2) read with section 13(1)(b)/12 of the PC Act, 1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 as she was found in possession of disproportionate assets which she could not account for satisfactorily.

Kabita Mathan has been arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Bhubaneswar. The court has remanded her to judicial custody till September 28, the release added.

The release has stated that following allegation of disproportionate assets against Kabita Mathan, officials of the anti-corruption wing conducted simultaneous house searches at six places in Khordha, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday by six teams of Vigilance Cell Division comprising 10 DSPs, 5 Inspectors and other staff on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Four buildings including one four-storeyed building, one triple-storeyed building and two double-storeyed buildings at Bhubaneswar, 14 plots of land including 10 plots at Bhubaneswar, three plots at Talakusuma in  Jagatsinghpur and one plot at Balianta in Khordha district, one four-wheeler, three two-wheelers, Insurance deposits over Rs2.2 lakh, gold ornaments weighing approx 212 grams worth over Rs 6.36 lakh and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling to over Rs 4 crore have been unearthed during the house search, the release said.

According to the release, after a thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Kabita Mathan were calculated and she was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs.2,96,39,475.
