Bhubaneswar: An Anganwadi worker was critically injured in a sword attack by unidentified miscreants near Chari Chhak on Nuagaon-Khajuripada road in Cuttack district on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Bharti Jena, a resident of Anuari village under Banki tehsil. She has been shifted to Khurda District Head Hospital (DHH) in critical condition.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday morning when Bharti was on her way to the Anganwadi Center on a scooter. On the way, some miscreants stopped her with the motive of robbing Bharati. Though critically injured, Bharati survived as she was wearing a helmet.
The miscreants fled the spot soon after the attack, while locals rescued her in critical condition and admitted her to a nearby hospital. Later, she was shifted to the Khurda DHH as her condition deteriorated.
Police are investigating the incident.
