Balasore: An Anganwadi worker was brutally assaulted by villagers for allegedly not serving eggs to children in the mid-day meal in Balasore district.

The Anganwadi worker, Urmila Samal faced the wrath of a group of women at Mahapada village under Singla police limits in Balasore.

The state government has made serving eggs mandatory to improve child nutrition. However, a viral video showed eggs were not provided in the MDM at Mahapada Anganwadi Centre.

The incident irked the women who confronted Urmila at the centre and dragged her out before tying her to a tree. They allegedly thrashed her mercilessly. The assault was even recorded on camera.

On being informed, Baliapal CDPO Parbati Murmu and other Anganwadi workers reached the centre and intervened in the matter.

Urmila was rushed to the community health centre and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital due to injuries in the attack.

A complaint was filed at Singla police station following which police registered a case. No arrests have been made so far.
