Anganwadi Workers Threaten Stir If 13-Point Charter Of Demands Not Met

Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of women Anganwadi workers from across Odisha staged a protest at Lower PMG Square here on Monday demanding regularisation of their jobs and 12 other points in their favour.

The workers under the banner of All Odisha Anganwadi Ladies Workers Association said they have a 13-point charter of demands and appealed the State Government to meet those.

The association leader said, “We demand a regular Government employee post instead of the one under ICDS scheme. Our minimum wages should be Rs 21,000 per month and we get other facilities as a Government employee.”

They added that Anganwadi workers should get retirement benefit of Rs 5 lakh, and a pension of Rs 5,000 per month post superannuation.

In case of the death of an Anganwadi worker, a family member should get the Anganwadi job and the deceased worker’s kin Rs 2 lakh as compensation, they demanded.

“Our Association is present in all 30 districts and we will be forced to go on strike if our demands are not met,” they added.
