Bhubaneswar: Sleuths of Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday caught Nabin Kumar Satapathy, ASI of Kiakata police station in Angul district, red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 8,000 bribe from a complainant.
According to the Odisha Vigilance, Satapathy demanded illegal gratification to help the complainant’s cousins in a case registered at Kiakata police station. The accused ASI had demanded a Rs 10,000 bribe from the complainant and had collected Rs 2,000 a few days back. He was nabbed by the Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday while taking the balance bribe amount.
The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from Satapathy.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations of the accused from disproportionate asset (DA) angle.
A case has also been registered against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, the Odisha Vigilance added.
