Bhubaneswar: The Angul District and Sessions Court on Monday delivered its final verdict in a murder case reported under the Chhendipada police station limits of Angul district, sentencing the accused to life imprisonment.
The court found Chaturbhuj Majhi guilty of murdering his relative Chikun Majhi following a family dispute. As per the prosecution, the incident took place on November 4, 2024, at Changudiya village under the jurisdiction of Chhendipada police station. The accused had allegedly killed the victim in a brutal manner during an altercation stemming from internal family issues.
Following the incident, the local police swung into action, promptly arrested the accused and produced him before the court. A chargesheet was filed after a detailed investigation, during which the police collected strong forensic and circumstantial evidence. The prosecution also relied on the testimonies of key witnesses to establish the accused’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
Based on the evidence presented, the Angul District and Sessions Judge pronounced the verdict on Monday, awarding life imprisonment to Chaturbhuj Majhi.
Officials noted that since the implementation of the new criminal laws, investigations and trials in criminal cases have been conducted at a faster pace, leading to quicker disposal of cases and an improvement in the conviction rate.
