Angul: Dushmanta Sahu, who was allegedly forced by villagers to go around the village beating a gong as punishment for his wife not voting for a particular candidate, knocked the door of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) here on Tuesday.

He has lodged complaint against 15 persons, who are according to him, supporters of Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

“I came here as no one was arrested who had forced me to go around the village beating a gong,” said Dushmanta, who was accompanied with leaders of BJP’s women’s wing.

Slamming the act, BJP General Secretary Lekhasri Samantsinghar said the way a group of villagers boycotted and harassed Dushmanta and his wife is totally inhuman. Strong action should be taken against those people.

Dushmanta had lodged a police complaint against the Ragudiapada village head and secretary in connection to the kangaroo court's decree. However, police did not take any action till today.

Later, Bantala Police registered a case against 52 persons, including Ragudiapada village head and secretary, on charges of holding an illegal kangaroo court and forcing Sahu to beat a gong as punishment.

Notably, kangaroo court, on July 6, at Ragudiapada village under Badakera grampanchayat in Angul district allegedly forced Dushmanta to go around the village beating a gong as punishment for his wife not voting for a particular candidate for the post of naib sarpanch.

During a local election, Dushmanta Sahu’s wife Mallika Sahu had voted for ward member Bidyadhar Prusty instead of Rama Sahu, who was favourite of several villagers.
