Angul Police Arrests Two On Charges Of Selling SIM Cards To Cyber Fraudsters

Angul: Vikrampur police here have arrested two persons on charges of selling SIM cards on the basis of forged documents. These SIM cards were being used by the purchasers for committing cyber offences.

The police acted on the complaint of one Subrat Kumar Majhi who reported of a fake social media account in his name. The account was being used by the fraudsters to borrow money from Majhi’s friends.

The case was taken up by the cyber cell of the district police which apprehended two persons from Barai Keonjhar district. The duo used to work at a mobile shop and sell new SIM cards with forged documents.

During investigation, it came to light that he sells new SIM cards using forged documents for Rs 200 to 300 per SIM in the local market on the directions of another individual. They supplied the SIMs to people who carried out cyber frauds,” a police official said.

They have been booked under Sections 419 of the IPC and Sections 66(C), and 66 (D) of the Information Technology Act. The police have seized documentary and electronic evidence against the accused. The duo was produced in the court of SDJM Talcher which remanded them in judicial custody.
