Angul SP Suspends SI For Perfunctory Investigation

Angul: Local SP Jagmohan Meena Wednesday suspended Sub Inspector (SI) of Police Arakhita Sethy of Angul police station on charges of perfunctory investigation in a case.

As per reports, Angul Town police acting on a tip-off conducted a search at the residence of  diehard anti-social Satyajit Pradhan alias Bapi of Lingrajodi village on Wednesday.

During the search police seized three country-made pistols, on an empty magazine, two nos. of  9mm and 7 nos. of 7.65mm live bullets.

Satyajit was arrested under section 25(113)(a) Arms Act of the Arms Act for illegal possession of the aforementioned arms and ammunitions. He was later forwarded to court.

However, he managed to get bail after being produced at the court.

The incident of Satyajit getting bail raised eyebrows pointing the needle of suspicion on Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Arakhita Sethy.

Following which DIG (North Central Range) Narasingha Bhol conducted an inquiry into the incident and on finding the investigation to be perfunctory directed Angul SP Jagmohan Meena to place Sethy under suspension.

Sethy was placed under suspension on Friday.

A press note issued by Angul District Police Headquarters reads, “SI Arakhita Sethy has been suspended with effect from 29 January 2020 for dereliction of duty in connection with Angul PS case number 108 dtd.28-01-2020 U/S-25(113)(a) Arms Act.  During the period of suspension, his headquarters is fixed at RO. Angul and he will remain under disciplinary control of RI, Angul”.
