Balasore: In connection with the question paper leak case of the JE civil (Mains) examination held by the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC), eight additional suspects were detained by a special team of Balasore police.
At a news conference, Balasore SP Sagarika Nath revealed that the case’s mastermind was among the defendants who had been captured from outside the State.
One of the printing press employees named Virendra Singh, who is from Bihar, leaked the document. The printing press is located elsewhere than in Odisha. The SP stated that Virendra had been in contact with the mastermind Vishal Kumar Chaurasia for the previous two years.
The accused persons were identified as – Vishal Kumar (35) & Vikash Kumar (30) of Bihar; Virendra Singh (53) of West Bengal; Gobind Chandra Tripathy (33) & Patta Sunil (33) of Ganjam; Sushant Kumar Sahu (42) of Jajpur; Bata Krushna Behera (39) & Bapun Prasenjit Sahu (28) of Balasore.
The mastermind of this crime Vishal Kumar is a government servant in Bihar. At present, he is posted at the Rural works department – Advance Planning division-II in Patna, Nath stated.
Additionally, Delhi Crime Branch discovered that he had previously been implicated in the event involving the question paper leak. In 2013–14, the exam in question was for Sub-Inspector and Assistant Sub-Inspector.
The accused, including the mastermind, have had their bank accounts frozen. More research is being done.
Notably, following Balasore SP confirming the question paper leak incident, the OSSC decided to cancel the Main Written Examination for JE (Civil) scheduled for July 16, 2023.
Additionally, the commission rescheduled the test for September 3.
