Puri: Baba Dayanidhi, an inmate of Gurukrupa Ashram in Odisha’s Puri district who sustained severe injuries during a brawl at the ashram on Friday, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at Cuttack’s SCB Medical College and Hospital.
According to reports, one Baba Vishnu Das of Gurukrupa Ashram located on Loknath Road under Baseli Police limits picked up a fight with another inmate of the ashram – Baba Arjun Das on Friday and soon attacked him with a wooden club. It is alleged that Baba Vishnu Das was in an intoxicated state and smashed the head of Baba Arjun Das, who died on the spot.
Witnessing the horrific scene, a terrified Baba Dayanidhi cried for help. Soon, Baba Vishnu Das attacked him with the wooden club. Hearing Baba Dayanidhi’s cries for help, local residents rushed to the ashram and rescued the bleeding ashram inmate.
While the police detained Baba Vishnu Das for the crime, Baba Dayanidhi was first taken to a medical facility in Puri, but as his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The police have sent the body of Baba Dayanidhi for post-mortem and launched an investigation into the matter.
