Bhubaneswar: The Annual Climate Conference of the United Nations, COP 28, is just concluding in Dubai. In this prestigious event, Principal Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha, Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee made a presentation to the global audience on “Transformation of Agrifood Systems”.
Dr Padhee emphasised how regenerative agriculture and sustainable intensification could take care of the challenges posed by Green House Gases (GHG) emissions by the agriculture sector.
Dr Padhee cited the example of Odisha Millets Mission and its inclusive approach to promote climate-resilient and nutritious millet crops.
Odisha’s pioneering initiative was very well appreciated by the delegates and participants that included policies makers, scientists, NGOs, academicians, etc.
It may be noted here that Dr Padhee himself is an agricultural scientist turned civil servant.
After his Doctorate degree in agriculture, he researched on “Agriculture Policies in a Changing Climate” for his Masters’ Dissertation at University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Dr Padhee’s participation in the United Nations event has highlighted various pro-environment policies of the State Government.
Principal Secretary has thanked officials and all stakeholders of the Department for the team efforts.
