**Bhubaneswar:** The Capital City has witnessed a series of incidents over the past two months in which four-wheeler drivers have been stopped, attacked and looted by rogues.
In the first incident, a bakery van was looted in Chandaka area. Two persons were arrested in this case, while three miscreants are still at large.
Around two weeks back, four passengers in a car were forced to halt on Nayapalli flyover by a group of anti-socials. The passengers were lucky to have escaped the attack.
Similarly, on Monday a person proceeding towards Kalpana square, was accosted at Bomikhal square by a couple of miscreants who attacked him with sharp weapons, According to sources, one of them also shot a blank fire.
While police have secured the CCTV footage in the Bomikhal incident, it is yet to be ascertained whether it was a loot attempt or the victim and attackers had a past enmity.
According to DCP Anup Sahoo, these are not drug related offences. “The cases of mobile phones and petty currency thefts are committed by drug addicts. We are trying to establish whether these incidents over the past one month are connected. The CCTV footage and modus operandi is being exmined,” said Sahoo.
Crime rate usually rises as a city expands. In case of Bhubaneswar, the Odisha capital has expanded enormously over the past one decade. This was one of the main reasons behind establishment of Commissionerate of Police.
The police department has also proposed bifurcating Bhubaneswar into two police districts. The denizens can only hope that more manpower and more police stations might check the rising incidents of street crimes in in the city.
