Bhubaneswar: An Army Major and his girlfriend reportedly attacked four constables and a woman sub-inspector at Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. All the four sustained various degrees of injuries.
The accused Army Major has been identified as Gurbanta Singh of the 22 Sikh Regiment based in Kolkata.
According to reports, after some unidentified youths insulted Singh’s girlfriend on the road, the Major and the woman approached the Bharatpur police for action against the alleged miscreants. However, the police asked them to file a written complaint instead of a verbal complaint to enable them to initiate any action.
Singh, on the other hand, asked the police to nab the youths first as he feared that they might flee the spot and said that he would lodge a written complaint later. When the police refused to act without a written complaint, Singh started an argument and later allegedly attacked the four constables and the lady SI injuring them. Singh’s girlfriend allegedly bit the hand of the lady SI.
Bharatpur police have registered a case in this connection and sent Singh for a medical test. Police said that they would forward Singh to court after the medical test.
Police alleged that Singh was in an inebriated state and drugs were found in his vehicle.
