Malkangiri: In an unfortunate incident, more than 10 bikes parked in front of Malkangiri Municipality Office went up in flames as a godown storing bleaching powder, phenyl and mosquito-repelling oil caught fire. However, no casualty is reported.
Tehsildar Guna Nidhi Nayak informed, “There was a blast heard from the godown of the municipality office. We all came out and immediately called the fire tenders. The officials have been working around for an hour and are now on the verge of dousing the fire now. A number of bikes have been burnt; but we can assess the damage only after the flames are fully doused.”
A branch of State Bank Of India was adjacent to the godown which blazed, but fortunately it did not spread over to it.
“I had just reached the office and barely started to work when there was a blast. We all ran out to see the godown in flames. My scooty along with a number of other bikes have been gutted in the fire,” informed Anita Dalai, a staff with the Municipality Office.
