Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday recovered Rs 3.31 lakh in cash, along with foreign currency notes from Vietnam and Nepal, from the possession of Arupa Nanda Das, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Badagaon Police Station in Sundargarh, who was arrested on Thursday.
He was initially apprehended in connection with a bribery case. During searches conducted today at multiple locations linked to Das, including his government quarters in Bhubaneswar and Badagaon, Vigilance officials seized the cash and foreign currency.
According to an official press release, Das had allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a local eatery (dhaba) owner to assist him in a case and to ensure the smooth operation of his business. Officials also confirmed that Das had travelled to Vietnam in May last year and possessed foreign currency from that visit, along with notes from Nepal.
In light of the findings, Odisha Vigilance has registered a case under Rourkela Vigilance PS Case No. 1/11.03.2026 under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. Das was forwarded to court today for further proceedings.
