Bhubaneswar: Arrested and suspended senior IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak today moved the Orissa High Court challenging rejection of his bail plea by Special Vigilance Court, Bhubaneswar.
Pathak, who was serving as the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Plan, Programme, and Afforestation, was arrested by the Vigilance for having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income on November 27. His son Akash Pathak was also arrested by the Vigilance.
The officer’s disproportionate earnings at the time of arrest were calculated at Rs 9.35 crore, about 435 per cent of known sources of his income.
A case under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered against the IFS officer and his son.
Akash Pathak has allegedly defrauded several people of their money on the pretext of offering them with jobs in Tata Company.
The Special Vigilance Court had rejected Abhay Pathak’s bail plea on November 27 and had remanded him to judicial custody at the Jharpada Special Jail here for 14 days.
Later, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken him on a three-day demand for questioning.
A 20-member SIT constituted of the Vigilance is currently investigating all aspects of the case.
