Article 370 Abrogation: BJP’s Mass Outreach Movement Is Dubbed As Milking Political Mileage
Bhubaneswar: The proposed month-long mass outreach movement of BJP from September 1 today evoked strong political reactions in Odisha as BJD and Congress dubbed it as a mere exercise of gaining political mileage.
In a bid to justify the Modi-led NDA Government’s mammoth move, BJP has decided to explain the general public on the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution concerned with Jammu and Kashmir (J&K),
In his reactions, BJD spokesperson and senior MLA Pratap Keshari Deb said, “They (BJP) have often mentioned in their election manifesto that they would revoke Article 370 of the Constitution after coming to power at the Centre. After Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister for the second time, the first step he has taken on it.”
He remarked, “Hence, the BJP will obviously try to gain political mileage out of it.”
The BJD leader explained, “It has been a big issue soon after the independence of India. It is not an issue pertaining only to Karnataka or Odisha or West Bengal or Assam or Tamil Nadu, etc. It’s a national issue. They (BJP), thus, want to sensitize people on it and certainly wish to reap political mileage from it.”
Senior Congress MLA Suresh Kumar Routray reacted, “Kashmir was merged with India by Jawaharlal Nehru. The people of Kashmir were given all the basic facilities at subsidized rates. At that time, our Army was not so strong. It became strong during Indira Gandhi’s tenure. Pakistan was bifurcated into two nations and Bangladesh was created. Now we have sufficient soldiers as well as arms and ammunition.”
He burst, “Hence, abrogation of Article 370 is no problem. Tricolour is to be unfurled in the entire nation, no problem. But the claim of BJP is unjustified. What have they (BJP) done? As we (Congress) had sheltered them (Kashmiris), you (BJP) have been able to hoist the Tricolour there. Have you (BJP) done anything extra?”
On the contrary, senior BJP MLA Pradip Purohit defended, “Now the whole nation is happy after the abrogation of Article 370 and Jammu and Kashmir is now an integral part of India. Under the current scenario, the message should be passed on to the general public. BJP will carry on its programme in the whole State starting from the block to district level.”
“If BJD deems it as a political game-plan, the party is frightened that abrogation of Article 370 has increased the popularity of both Narendra Modi and BJP. It has also increased in Odisha,” he remarked.
Notably, the month-long movement is aimed at highlighting the developmental work with the people while abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution will be projected as a major achievement of the BJP-led NDA Government.
