Bhubaneswar: Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Asani’ has already gone past the stage of maximum intensification and it is likely to weaken gradually. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm by May 11.
The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Asani’ over Westcentral and adjoining southwest Bay
of Bengal lay centered at 0830 hours IST today over westcentral Bay of Bengal about 260 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 300 km south of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 490 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha), and 570 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha).
It is very likely to move nearly northwestwards till today night and reach Westcentral Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh coast. Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve north northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts.
It is likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 24 hours.
