Bhubaneswar: The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Asani’ over Westcentral and adjoining south Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during past six hours and lay centered at 5:30 pm on Monday, over westcentral and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal.
The system, currently moving as a severe cyclonic storm will be of the same intensity till 5:30 am on Tuesday. By 11:30 am tomorrow, the system would have weakened into a cyclonic storm when it would be moving parallel to Odisha coast, after recurving, the latest bulletin by the IMD revealed.
The system lies about 390 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 390 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 510 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 580 km south of Puri (Odisha).
It is very likely to move nearly northwestwards till 10th May night and reach Westcentral Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh coast & adjoining Odisha coast. Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. It is likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours.
