Bhubaneswar: An Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team visited the Lingaraj temple to assess the damage caused by lightning strikes in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, the sacred flag atop the Lingaraj temple was burnt, and several CCTV cameras and electrical fixtures inside the sanctum sanctorum were reported damaged due to lightning strikes.
Besides, the lightning strike also rendered the inverters and electric bulbs useless. Moreover, the failure of the lightning protection system during the severe thunderstorm created panic among the temple’s priests and visitor. However, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
On the other hand, the lightning strikes amid intense rain and thunder disrupted normal life in parts of Bhubaneswar and caused waterlogging and traffic jams.
Meanwhile, the ASI authorities are assessing the damage so that necessary renovation will be carried out promptly.
