Bhubaneswar: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Puri Circle is expected to complete the repair and conservation work of the Ratna Bhandar at Shree Jagannath Temple at Puri ahead of the annual Ratha Yatra in 2025.

This was informed by Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

Taking to his X account, Dr. Padhee stated that the ongoing conservation efforts are progressing well under the supervision of ASI officials.

“The conservation and repair works of the Ratna Bhandar at Shree Mandir were reviewed today with officials from the ASI, Puri Circle. The inner conservation of the Bhitara Ratna Bhandar is nearly complete, except for floor renovation. A major milestone has been achieved with the precise installation of five stainless steel (SS) box beams within the inner chamber,” Dr. Padhee shared.

He further informed that the renovation and replacement of damaged stone elements in the Bahara Ratna Bhandar are also nearing completion. Structural conservation work on the exterior, including the de-plastering near the junction of the Jagamohana Pidha stones and the outer structure of the Ratna Bhandar, along with the replacement of porous and deteriorated stone blocks, is being carried out with utmost care.

“Given the sensitive nature of the Ratna Bhandar conservation, meticulous planning and execution are of paramount importance. We are optimistic that the ASI will complete this ambitious project ahead of the Ratha Yatra. The SJTA remains committed to providing full support to the ASI in this endeavour,” he stated.

Concluding his remarks, Dr. Padhee expressed hope and reverence, “May the conservation, repair and restoration of the Ratna Bhandar be completed soon, in accordance with the divine will of Mahaprabhu. Jai Jagannatha!”
