**Bhubaneswar: ** In the wake of Congress back in power after a decade and half in neighbouring Chhattisgarh and amid the ongoing Mahanadi row with Odisha due to Chhattisgarh’s former BJP Government’s allegedly unilateral constructions blocking the flee flow of the main river’s water downstreams, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) is now optimistic of a solution.
This was revealed by OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik while immersed in the victory celebrations at the Congress Bhawan here today.
In his media reactions, the jubilant OPCC chief said, “We are especially elated that Congress party has scripted a stupendous success in Chhattisgarh.”
He stated, “The way Odisha has been forced to be drought-hit (by former BJP government in Chhattisgarh), we’re now hopeful that we’ll hold discussion with the Chhattisgarh Congress government and get some relief.”
“On the Mahanadi issue we’ll now muster courage to hold discussion with the Chhattisgarh Congress government and are optimistic of some relief from the plaguing issue,” the OPCC president reiterated.
Senior BJD MLA Arun Sahoo said, “Mahanadi is the lifeline of Odisha, lifeline of 15-16 districts. We had warned the Chhattisgarh government to suffer the consequences of Mahanadi. Now let us wait and watch what the Congress government does there now on this issue.”
On the contrary, senior BJP leader Pratap Sarangi reacted, “We humbly accept the defeat and people’s mandate. BJP has got an opportunity for self-introspection. Reason behind the defeat will be examined by central leadership.”
He but averred, “Modi is the most popular Prime Minister of our country. One thing is clear that the political situation of our country got polarized between BJP and anti-BJP. All have allied in a bid to keep BJP at bay from power. This unusual alliance will not last long. In the past, many alliance governments have undergone tests.”
