Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance on Tuesday arrested an Assistant Agriculture Officer, Pranaya Kumar Mantry on charges of bribery. Mantry was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh from a fertiliser dealer.
The officer had allegedly threatened to cancel the license of the dealer if he did not pay the bribe, a complaint by the latter with the Vigilance stated.
The AAO was nabbed near a two-wheeler showroom in Paikamal with the graft money. Following the arrest, searches were conducted at his office in Bargarh district, house in Sailashree Vihar, and native village in Tigiria, Cuttack, the Vigilance stated.
In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance has registered a case under Sections 7 of PC Amendment Act, 2018 and investigation is on.
