Bhubaneswar: Purighat police arrested an astrologer for allegedly molesting a woman at her home in Cuttack.
The astrologer has been identified as Jagannath Nayak (36), a resident of Biridi in Jagatsinghpur district.
According to reports, the woman, a resident of Cuttack’s Santa Sahi area, was facing financial and family problems, and was worried about it. On the advice of a relative, she contacted Nayak to ward off evil and bring peace at her home.
Nayak suggested performing a ritual to resolve her issues and charged Rs 70,000 for the ritual. The woman, however, agreed to the proposal.
Jagannath had initially taken Rs 25,000 from the woman for the ritual. On Tuesday evening, he arrived at her home and performed the ritual in a closed room. During the ritual, he allegedly molested the woman when she was alone with him. The woman’s cries alerted others, and Jagannath fled the scene.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman, Purighat police launched an investigation and arrested Nayak.
