Bhubaneswar: Over 15 devotees suffered burn injuries after sparks of firecrackers fell on the crowd during ‘Chapa Khela’ on the auspicious Chandan Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri on Wednesday evening.
The injured reportedly include some children. They all have been admitted to Puri district headquarters hospital. Some of the devotees reportedly suffered critical burns.
The incident took place when devotees burst firecrackers during the divine Chapa Khela rituals in the Narendra Puskarini in the pilgrim town.
The sparks of the firecrackers fell on the crowd present at the pond to catch a glimpse of the divine ritual. The crackers exploded at Devi Ghat in the holy pond.
