Cuttack: Intense competition marked the second day of the 74th State Police Athletics Championship at the Reserve Police Ground in Buxibazar here, with athletes from police districts, battalions and units across Odisha delivering strong performances in a wide range of track and field events.
Events were conducted in both men’s and women’s categories, including sprints, middle- and long-distance races, hurdles, jumps, throws, relays and the decathlon. Several athletes showcased high levels of athleticism, securing gold, silver and bronze medals across disciplines.
In the men’s 200m run, Bighnaraj Miridia clinched gold, followed by Nitesh Kumar Mahant and Abhishek Dalbehera. Ashok Dandsena won the 5000m run, with Satyajit Mahant and Chandan Sabar finishing second and third respectively. Anshuman Rayaguru topped the 110m hurdles, while Anil Singh and Praveen Tariya claimed silver and bronze. Taranisen Mahant secured gold in the triple jump, ahead of Samrat Sa and T. Kharasel. In the discus throw, K. Babuji finished first, followed by Pradipta Kumar Rautaray and Yugesh Kumar Das.
In the women’s section, Shukhi Baske won the 200m race, with Prityrekha Mardi and Mamina Raut on the podium. Susmita Tiga claimed gold in the 5000m run, while Lipina Parida and Dileshwari Meher secured silver and bronze. Savita Tapo topped the 100m hurdles, followed by Banita Lakra and Savita Mallick. Suchismita Pradhan won the long jump, ahead of Rina Kishan and Mausumi Lakra. In the javelin throw, Ranjita Khes secured gold, with Ranjita Tapo and Sangeeta Minj finishing second and third.
In the men’s 4x100m relay, the Berhampur team won gold, followed by OSAP 6th Battalion, Cuttack, and Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar ‘B’. The women’s 4x100m relay saw Sundargarh take gold, while Keonjhar and Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar ‘A’ finished second and third respectively.
In the men’s decathlon, the Koraput team clinched gold, with OISF, Bhubaneswar, and OSAP 6th Battalion, Cuttack, taking silver and bronze.
Senior police officers, including IG (Personnel) Praveen Kumar, Commandant Suryanarayan Mallick and Commandant Ashok Kumar Mohanty, were present on the occasion. They encouraged the participants and presented medals to the winners.
