ATM Loot: Commissionerate Police To Remind Banks For Stepping Up Security Measures

**Bhubaneswar:** A day after some unidentified miscreants made an unsuccessful attempt to loot an ATM at Janla under Jatni police limits, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo informed that major reason behind ATM loot incidents is non-compliance of banks with the Commissionerate Police guidelines.

Talking to mediapersons here, the DCP said that during investigation the bank authorities informed both CCTV cameras at the ATM are dysfunctional due to which they don’t have any footage of the miscreants. Police has to rely on other evidences to nab the culprits.

Earlier, former Commissioner YB Khurania had issued an advisory to all banks to upgrade the security arrangements at their respective branches and ATM kiosks and had also warned to take strong action against authorities of the banks whose branches and ATMs are found without any security personnel.

“Few months back we had issued a letter to various bank authorities where we had asked them to appoint security guards and install surveillance cameras, one at entrance and another inside, at the ATMS. But we noticed they have not complied with the advisory,” said Sahoo.

The Commisisonerate Police will again impress upon the banks to follow the guidelines in view of security concerns, he added.
