Bhubaneswar: An ATM robber was injured in an encounter by the Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police in Badagada area of Bhubaneswar on Saturday night. Inter-state robber Deepak Kumar was caught by the Special Squad while attempting to loot an ATM late at night.
Deepak Kumar, a native of Bihar, had come to Odisha to target various ATMs. A face-off with the police occurred during an ATM robbery attempt in the Badagada police station area on Saturday night. When the police opened fire, Deepak was hit in the leg in a retaliatory attack. The Special Squad admitted Deepak to Capital Hospital, and he was later shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
There are several cases pending against Deepak in various police stations in the State Capital. In order to loot cash, Deepak cleverly insert an adhesive substance inside the ATM machine. When a customer withdrew money, the cash gets stuck in the ATM. The robbers would then withdraw the money after the customers fled, thinking it was a technical glitch.
