Koraput: Unidentified miscreants set afire the ATM in front of the Balda branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) under Padua police limits of Nandapur block in Koraput district during the wee hours today after looting over a lakh of rupees stashed in it.
According to video footage captured on the CCTV of the Balda branch of the SBI unidentified miscreant came in a luxury car carrying with them a variety of equipment to break open the ATM.
The footage shows miscreants breaking open the ATM looting the cash kept in it between 3.30 AM to 3.45 AM today.
The footage further shows that the miscreants before decamping set the ATM on fire possibly to destroy evidence. The miscreants are seen going towards Padua in the CCTV footage.
On being informed, Nandapur SDPO Sanjay Kumar Mahapatra, Padua IIC Sabyasachi Satpathy and a team of policemen have reached the spot and started an inquiry. An alert has been issued to all police stations in the border area.
Police suspects it to be the handiwork of the same gang that had earlier looted ATMs in Balasore, Nabarangpur, etc. in similar fashion.
