Nabarangpur: Sangita Sahu, an Economics Lecturer at a private college in Nabarangpur district of Odisha is a perfect example of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ as she has been running a small scale chocolate business from her house since October 2019.
It all started after Sangita, under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, first got a chance from her district administration to gain training in food processing in the district and later at Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Hyderabad.
On her return from the training, she with the help of her family members ventured into the chocolate business and her brand ‘Golus Chokkii’ gradually started gaining the market share.
Sangita claims her chocolate to be chemical-free and sells it at a price of Rs 5 per piece. It takes three hours to prepare two kilograms of the chocolate by hand and only seven minutes if it is done through a machine. One can earn around Rs 10,000 per month through this business.
“All women who want to be self-dependent should do something to increase their income source and give scope to other women in their area. They need not migrate to other States but can do a job by staying near their family,” said Sangita.
