Attack Inside PS: Is It Time To Change The Policing Leadership In Balasore?

Balasore: A mob of around 150 people attacking two complainants inside Remuna Police Station and ransacking it in presence of police in Balasore have raised questions over policing in the district.

Reportedly, there were previous feuds between two groups in Mandarpur and Remnar villages under Remuna police limits. At around 11 PM last night, some members of a group arrived at the police station. Earlier, a husband and wife of another group had arrived at the police station to complain that their house had been demolished. As a result, the two groups clashed at the police station.

While two platoons of police force have been deployed in the area, people have alleged that the Tuesday attack is just another example of the deteriorating law and order situation in the district.

Criminals in the district are getting fearless enough to challenge the authority of the police. Several incidents of crime including murder, attempted murder, loot and kidnapping have been reported in the last few months.

Miscreants looting gold and silver ornaments from Shani temple in Khadipada, businessman Anand Singh being shot at over parking near Gadagadia Chowk, murder of trawler owner Bijay Pradhan alias Doctor Babu at Naupalgadi and kidnapping of jewellery shop owner Prahallad Behera in Soro are examples of few such incidents.

After the murder of Bijay Pradhan, I.G.P (Eastern Range), Balasore, Diptesh Kumar Pattanayak, had told mediapersons that all possible measures have been stepped and the police will ensure that no such further incidents take place.

Despite this, today’s attack inside the police station is a bizarre reminder of how law and order seem to have gone for a toss in the district.

Citizens in Balasore allege that due to the ineffective policing measures by the district SP Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra criminals are having a free hand.

OMMCOM NEWS tried to get the reaction of IGP Pattanayak and SP Mishra on the present law and order situation but they were not available for comment.
