Attack On PCC Chief’s Car: 1 Held By Keonjhar Town Police, Others Identified, Manhunt Launched

Keonjhar: Soon after the alleged attack on the car of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik and the scuffle with his personal security officer last night near Kashipur here in the district, Town police have detained one accused while a manhunt has been launched to round up the others as they have already been identified.

Keonjhar Additional SP Biranchi Prasad Dehury informed media today, “Last night when State Congress President Niranjan Patnaik was on his way to Keonjhar, four-five miscreants in a Bolero overtook his car near Kashipur and tried to stop it. Following such a development, a scuffle ensued between Patnaik’s personal security officer and those persons. A case has been registered at Keonjhar Town PS in that connection. Investigation is on.”

“An accused person has been apprehended in that case. He has been identified as Sanjay Mohanty. He is now under detention. Action will be taken as per the legal provisions. The rest others have also been identified. They will be rounded up very soon. SP Saheeb has issued instructions to the Town police accordingly,” added the Additional SP.

On being queried if any political links behind the attack, the Additional SP replied, “Nothing has been established till now. Investigation is underway.”

Notably, PCC chief Niranjan Patnaik car was allegedly intercepted near Kashipur under the Town Police Station (PS) limits during his visit to the district yesterday. His driver and security person were allegedly assaulted by the miscreants following which an FIR was lodged at the Town PS by the security personnel. The incident took place around 8 pm on Sunday night. The accused persons were in a Bolero and all were allegedly in an inebriated state.
