Bhubaneswar: Jajpur police arrested an auto rickshaw driver on Monday for allegedly abducting a working woman, tying her up, and facilitating her brutal gang-rape by two accomplices in the Jajpur town area.
The incident occurred on the night of April 22 but came to light on April 26.
The accused driver, identified as Balaram Dash, alias Nanda, son of Nityananda Dash from Kuanra village under Dasarathpur police station, was apprehended following an investigation.
According to police, the victim was waiting at Gandhi Chhak for a vehicle to return home when Balaram offered her a ride. Instead of taking her to her destination, he picked up two youths—one from Motona Chhak and another from Buddha Chhak.
“They took her to a deserted place on the outskirts of the town and assaulted her,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Sitikantha Kanungo to reporters.
He also stated that during the investigation, the auto was seized, and the driver was arrested on Monday. “The other two accused involved in this case will be arrested soon,” he added.
