Bhadrak: A school girl was killed and two others were injured after an autorickshaw carrying them met with an accident at Mandari on Basudevpur-Dhamra road in Bhadrak district today.
The deceased girl student has been identified as Himani Roul, she was studying in class VI. The injured have been hospitalised.
According to reports, at around 4.30 PM today, an autorickshaw was carrying six-seven students from Basudevpur towards Dhamra after school hours were over. On losing balance the vehicle hit the median on the road and toppled.
Under the impact, while Himani remained under the autorickshaw and was crushed to death, others were ejected out of the vehicle.
All the occupants of the autorickshaw were rushed to the Community Health Centre at Basudevpur where doctors declared Himani dead.
Tension prevailed in the area following the incident.
Locals blocked the road by burning old automobile tyres while demanding action against school authorities for providing rickety vehicles for the transportation of school children in violation of norms.
The agitators were pacified and the blockade was lifted after the intervention of the local administration and police.
