Avoid Hiring Pvt Vehicles For Transport Or Face Action: STA

Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) strictly advised against the hiring of non-transport or private passenger-carrying vehicles as it clearly violates provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The order from State Transport Commissioner advises Central and State Government departments, PSUs of Central and State Government, ULBs, autonomous bodies, industrial houses and individuals to hire and use only motor cabs, maxi cabs and omnibuses (passenger-carrying vehicles) which are registered under transport category.

The order adds that these categories of vehicles must possess the following documents:

  • valid permit
  • insurance certificate
  • fitness certificate
  • proof payment of up to date tax
  • pollution under control certificate

The order also asked to ensure enforcement and to issue an e-challan to violators and to take steps to convert the private vehicle to transport category. FIR should also be submitted against the hirer of private passenger carrying vehicles under IPC Section 188.

The Transport Commissioner noted that it must be ensured that non-erring vehicles or individuals boarding the non-transport carrying vehicles are not unduly harassed.
