Bhubaneswar: Ollywood actor Babushaan Mohanty performed the tonsure ceremony and other pending rituals in Puri today over three months after the demise of his father, legendary Odia actor Uttam Mohanty.
Accompanied by his wife, close relatives, and friends, Babushaan conducted the rituals at Puri sea beach that had been delayed due to his busy shooting schedule for the upcoming film Bou Buttu Bhuta.
As part of the ceremonies, Babushaan also performed the Asthi Visarjan ritual by immersing his father’s ashes in the holy waters of the Puri sea.
The actor, who lost his father on February 27 this year, had initially postponed the tonsure ceremony and other rites following the last rites due to his film commitments. However, with the completion of his shooting schedule, he fulfilled all pending rituals.
“I was unable to perform the rituals earlier due to my shooting commitments. After wrapping up the shoot, I completed all the pending rites. Visiting Puri to seek my father’s blessings and complete these rituals brings me peace. Traditionally, I visit Puri to have darshan of Lord Jagannath after finishing each film. However, following my father’s demise, I am not supposed to visit the temple for one year. I have requested my uncle to offer a ‘bana’ (flag) to seek Lord Jagannath’s blessings for my upcoming movie’s success,” the actor told reporters after performing his father’s death rituals.
He further added, “A movie project involves the hopes of many artists and I am part of this project. My father always taught me that work is God. Therefore, I prioritized completing the film before performing the rituals.”
